Bollywood hails Anna Hazare's victory

Anna Hazare ended his 12-day fast Sunday morning and a lot of Bollywood celebrities -- from megastar Amitabh Bachchan to social activist-actress Shabana Azmi -- expressed their, happiness calling it "a moment of greatest pride" and "a new beginning".

Hazare, who began his fast Aug 16 morning, agreed to break his fast after parliament Saturday broadly agreed to three key demands of his civil society group to battle corruption.

The celebrities took to Twitter to express their feelings.

Here is what they had to say:

Amitabh Bachchan: To know that such individuals inhabit our nation is a moment of the greatest pride. But to know what they feel is incredible!! ...all praise to the spirit of the one man... that he inhabits our land and feels for it.

Shabana Azmi: To a new beginning. Let's applaud Anna for leading the people of India into a nonviolent show of strength.I'm proud to be an Indian.Jai Ho

Abhishek Bachchan: One man unites an entire nation. Peacefully. #salute

Bipasha Basu: Anna is our true leader and his spirit has made everyone conscious that we can do away with corruption and need not accept it as a part of our lives. Big step forward for India and all of us!

Raveena Tandon: 'Haazaaron saal jiyo Anna Hazare!!' (Long Live Anna Hazare).

Dia Mirza: Thank you Annaji Hazare for the awakening. I was silent earlier because I was not in an agreement with the method adopted by certain people around Anna. Grateful we've found a middle path! I am proud to have witnessed the India that I have in the last 11 days. Even more proud of parliamentarians who upheld democracy.

Shekhar Kapur: Woke to a new dawn, a new freedom and saw a distant star of hope shining brighter and closer to every Indian heart. Anna can now rest as nation's youth have heeded his call. 64 years of system will not change overnight so we need to be vigilant. Anna's greatest achievement is to show the people of India that they can take charge of their own destiny.

My respect and congratulations to the people of India!

Shruti Seth: Anna Hazare has done what none of us thought possible. For better or worse that time will tell. You've made the public realise their power.

Aarakshan Movie Review

In the very first scene of AARAKSHAN, Deepak Kumar (Saif Ali Khan), while giving a college interview, is made fun of because of his caste. He storms off the room, not before insulting the interviewees and the film begins on a high note. However, as the clock ticks, the graph of the film only heads South.

AARAKSHAN is about Prabhakar Anand (Amitabh Bachchan), who has been the pillar of a private college in Bhopal for more than 30 years. The idealistic principal believes in merit, but at the same time is considerate towards poor students who can't score great marks. Deepak who is immensely helped by Prabharkar, is in love with his daughter, Poorbi (Deepika Padukone). Sushant (Prateik) is a good friend of Poorbi and studies in the same college.

A comment in a newspaper on the Supreme Court's order on reservation lands Prabhakar in a tough spot. He resigns from his post giving way to the scheming Mithilesh Singh (Manometer Bajpai), who's part of the institute but concentrates more on his private coaching classes. Due to his evil plans, Prabhakar and his family are even forced to give up their home. Will Prabhakar be able to reclaim his life, is what ensues.

Based on the social issue of reservation, Prakash Jha's AARARSHAN has its heart at the right place. But it takes so long to convey its message that you run out of patience. The first half, despite taking too long (two back-to-back songs) to get to the central plot, is pretty good. The conflicts between the characters make for a compelling watch. But after the interval, Prakash loses his grip as the narrative just drags. It becomes laborious and repetitive watch, with the story moving at a snail's pace. The climax is too good to be true and fails to have a great impact.

Sonam Kapoor is happy to be experimenting

Last year it was Deepika Padukone who had an eventful year with as many as five of her films releasing one after another. Now the same could well hold true for Sonam Kapoor who started it all with Thank You but would also be seen in 'Mausam' and 'Players' before the end of year. She is happy though that at the least she is changing genres with each of these films and experimenting with her performance and look.
